Encounter with a Local Celebrity

Robin took the girls on a walk this afternoon down to the creek.  It's, of course, Labor Day weekend and it's also First Friday in Golden, and there was a lot going on.  There was a band playing so Robin stopped to listen.  The girls love music - Maggie can even do the sign for music.
As Robin was sitting watching the music, he noticed a local celebrity - Erik Weihenmayer.  He is truly an amazing person.  Erik recently competed - and got 2nd place - on Expedition Impossible with team No Limits.  He has climbed the Seven Summits - the tallest peak on every continent (that means he's climbed Mt. Everest).  Oh - and did I mention - he's BLIND!

I watched Expedition Impossible every week, and Robin watched it occasionally.  Robin immediately recognized him.  He and his daughter had stopped to listen to the music after an afternoon of tubing in Clear Creek.  It seemed Robin was the only person to recognize him.  On EI, they always said that his team - No Limits - was from Boulder.  It turns out Erik lives right here in beautiful Golden. 

Unfortunately, Robin didn't have his nice camera with him (only his iPhone), but Erik (and his daughter) was nice enough to pose for some pictures with Robin and the girls. 

Those random folks in the background seemed to have no idea they were in the presence of such a great man.

I really wish I had been with them.  What an honor is was for Robin and the girls to meet him.  Maybe we'll run into him again around town.
