Poopy Day

Literally - a poopy day.

Poop everywhere.  Try getting three poop-covered toddlers from the basement to the upstairs bathroom without making a bigger mess.  Yuck!

First ER Trip

We're slowing but surely getting settled into our new house.  We love it!!
On Saturday night, we had our first trip to the ER.  Robin was shooting a wedding, so I was alone with the girls.  Right before dinner, Katie was screaming and pointing at her foot saying "ouch" and "uh-oh."  It was red and a bit swollen.  I felt it and I could feel what I thought was the bone protruding out.  I have no idea how it happened.  Life with multiples - your back is turned a lot!

I called my mom to come over to watch the other girls and feed them dinner while I took Katie to the ER.  Here she is watching Tangled in the ER.

The ER doctor thought there was a 50/50 chance it was broken.  She would stand on it, but wouldn't bear much weight - would only walk on her heel.  By the time we got there, the little bump that I thought was the bone was much bigger.  It was actually the swelling.  They tried to give her ibuprofen, but she wouldn't swallow it.  They told me to plug her nose, but her mouth was full of water and ibuprofen.  What a bad experience for both of us.  Plugging her nose only made her try to breathe through her mouth, which was full.  She sucked in all that water and choked.  Bad nurse!

Anyway - they took three x-rays of her foot.  There was a small mark, but they didn't think it was a fracture.  Thank goodness!!!  I didn't want to deal with a cast.  They gave me the option of splinting it, but I decided it wasn't worth it.  She's still limping a bit, but it's much better.  The bruise is a lot bigger now though.  Poor girl!

These were also taken in the ER.

It was 9:30pm by the time we left the ER.  It took 2.5 hours.  Neither of us had any dinner, so we stopped at McDonald's.  Katie had her first Happy Meal that night.  As she sat in her high chair, she kept pointing to the empty high chairs saying, "Maggie....Izzie?"  So cute!!

Worst Move Ever

We did it.  We moved.  I'm not quite sure how we did it, but it's done.  The girls' birthday party was on 2/18.  By Monday, they had low grade fevers and runny noses.  Then, Robin got sick too.  I kept taking Cold Snap, and doing everything I could to stay healthy.  I was determined to not be sick during our move.  Then it happened.  Friday night (the night before our move), as I was going to bed, I felt it.  I was sick.  It started in my nose and progressed into my chest.  I barely slept that night - by my estimation, I got about 3 hours of sleep.  We got up at 6am to make sure we had everything ready for the movers.  When I got up, I felt like I had pneumonia.  I had no choice, so I got through it.  I pushed myself as hard as I could all day.

The move was finally complete at 2pm.  My mom was with us all day to help with the girls.  After she left, we still had so much to do.  I was exhausted, but we needed to get our bed set-up.  Robin did most of it himself.  I was so sick, I really wanted to go to urgent care, but I decided I really just needed a hot shower and some sleep.  As I waited for the water to warm up in the shower, I realized it just wasn't going to happen.  The house has been vacant for quite some time, and they set the hot water heater to low.  So, there I was taking literally the coldest shower I've ever taken on a night when I needed the hottest shower ever.

By 5:30 the next morning, I was even more miserable than the day before.  We were supposed to go back to the house in Golden to clean (I had a cleaning lady scheduled to be there) and to get the last of our stuff.  We were incredibly fortunate, and we were able to rent the house before we even moved out, so we really needed to get it cleaned.  I was sure I had pneumonia, so I decided to go to the ER.  I figured it was so early in the morning that they wouldn't be busy and hopefully I could be home in time to go to Golden with Robin.  No. Such. Luck. They weren't busy, but it still took forever.

At the ER, they were really worried about me becasue my heartrate was so high.  My chest x-ray was negative - no pneumonia.  They did give me 2 breathing treatments, which helped tremendously.  Finally, the flu test came back - positive.  I'm someone who refuses to get a flu shot (and the girls don't get them either).  As it turns out, it's likely we all had the flu, but mine was the worst because of how hard I had pushed myself the day before.  I wasn't discharged from the ER until nearly 11am.  Then I had to go get my prescriptions filled.  I finally made it home at about 12:30p.

Robin was amazing.  He cleaned the house in Golden and got everything there squared away.  My mom was a saint.  She stayed with the girls on Saturday, Sunday, Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday and part of the day on Thursday.  Sunday and Monday - I was the sickest I have ever been in my whole life.  Absolutely miserable.  However, I still don't think I'll get a flu shot next year.

To make matters worse, the seller didn't complete everything on the inspection resolution.  I ended up having to get the boiler (we have hot water heat) repaired and have some major electrical work done on Tuesday and Wednesday.  I will be reimbursed by the seller for those costs.  I will!

We had reservations to go to the Capital Grill on Tuesday night for Restaurant Week.  Luckily, I was well enough to go.  Our reservations were late - 8pm. So, I scheduled the walk through for the house in Golden for that night.  We went to Golden to pick up Robin's "classic" car and to do the walk through.  We knew the battery was dead in the car, but we thought we could jump it.  4 jumps later, we realized it wasn't going to work.  We pushed the car to the side of the road, and I insisted that we get a new battery and get it done that night.  I didn't want to go back to Golden again.  So, by the light of a cell phone and in his suit coat, Robin changed the battery on the car.  We made it downtown just in time.  We left his car parked outside downtown, and we found a meter for our car downtown.  Big mistake.  We put in money for 2 hours (that left us 10 minutes before 10p when parking is free).  We got back to the car at 10:10 only to find a ticket on the car that had been issued at 10:05.  After some reasearch, I learned that there is no longer free parking after 10p in Denver.  $25 lesson.  Ugh.

We still have so much work to do on the house.  We went to IKEA yesterday to get some new furniture and dishes.  Because I was so sick when we first got here, I didn't get a chance to unpack anything.  Slowly but surely, we're getting there.

We absolutely love our new house.  But this was the worst move ever.  I'm so glad it's over!!!

Birthday Party

The girls had their birthday party at Little Monkey Bizness yesterday.  They had sooo much fun.  I really enjoyed watching them explore.  Maggie was so independent.  She was always off by herself exploring.  Katie and Izzie spent about 20 minutes on the teeter totter; they couldn't get enough of it.  Katie and Izzie also both made it up and down the big inflatable slide.  The girls hosted 12 of their little friends.  They played in the play area for a little over an hour, and then we moved to the party room for snacks and cake.

My friend, Kelley, made the MOST AMAZING cakes for the girls.  See No Evil.  Hear No Evil.  Speak No Evil.  Check out the detail on the cakes below.  One was lemon, one was carrot (my favorite!!) and one was chocolate.  I can't thank her enough for all the work she put into the cakes.  Also, her two older daughters were amazing helpers.  They kept a close eye on my girls, and they even helped them get out of some tricky places in the play area.  It would have been more difficult for us without them there.

Thank you to all of our family and friends that joined us at the party.  The girls had a great time, and we hope you did too!!
